Microwave Not Heating:
This is one of the most frequent complaints. The microwave appears to be working—the light is on and the turntable is spinning—but it fails to heat the food. This is often caused by a faulty magnetron or capacitor.
Turntable Isn’t Rotating:
If the plate inside your microwave isn’t spinning, it can lead to uneven cooking. This issue can stem from a worn-out turntable motor, a broken drive bushing, or an improperly seated glass tray.
Sparks Inside the Microwave (Arcing):
Seeing sparks or flashes of light inside your microwave can be alarming. This is often caused by food splatters, a damaged waveguide cover, or using non-microwave-safe cookware. It’s a serious issue that should be addressed immediately.
Microwave Runs and Then Stops Abruptly:
The microwave might start a cooking cycle and then shut off unexpectedly after just a few seconds. This could be due to a faulty door switch, a malfunctioning control board, or an overheating issue.
Unusual or Loud Noises:
While microwaves make some noise, loud buzzing, humming, or grinding sounds are a sign of trouble. These noises can indicate a problem with the magnetron, the turntable motor, or the high-voltage diode.
Keypad or Buttons Not Responding:
If you can’t enter a cook time or the start button won’t work, you may have a faulty keypad. This can be caused by a damaged membrane switch or a problem with the main control board.
Display is Blank or Flickering:
A dead or malfunctioning digital display makes it impossible to see the timer or settings. This usually points to an issue with the control board or a related power supply problem.
Microwave Door Doesn’t Latch Securely:
A microwave door that won’t close or latch properly is a major safety concern, as it can prevent the unit from starting or lead to radiation leakage. This is typically due to a broken door latch assembly.
Interior Light is Burnt Out:
While not affecting the cooking function, a burnt-out interior light makes it difficult to monitor your food. This is usually a simple bulb replacement, but accessing it can sometimes be tricky depending on the model.
Exhaust Fan Not Working (Over-the-Range Models):
For microwaves installed above a stove, a malfunctioning exhaust fan fails to vent smoke and odors from the kitchen. This could be caused by a faulty fan motor or a problem with the unit’s filters.
Microwave Repair F.A.Q.
What information should I have ready when I call to schedule my microwave repair?
To help us diagnose the problem more quickly and ensure our technician is prepared, please have the microwave’s brand name (e.g., GE, Panasonic, Samsung) and, if possible, the model number. The model number is typically found on a label inside the door. Also, be ready to describe the specific issue you’re experiencing (e.g., “it’s making a loud buzzing noise” or “the keypad isn’t responding”).
How can I tell if my microwave is worth repairing without paying for a full service call?
You can help us determine if a repair is economical by telling us the type of microwave you have. Generally, built-in, over-the-range, and high-end drawer models are excellent candidates for repair, as replacing them is expensive and complex. For basic countertop models, we can often assess the likely cause over the phone and give you an honest recommendation based on the potential cost of the repair versus a new unit.
What are the urgent signs that I should stop using my microwave and call for help immediately?
Your safety is the top priority. Unplug your microwave and schedule a service call right away if you notice any of these red flags:
- Sparks or flashes of light inside the unit.
- Any smoke or burning smells.
- The door doesn’t close or seal properly.
- The unit continues to run after the timer has finished or when the door is opened.
How long will I need to be home for the repair, and can you fix it in one visit?
A typical microwave repair appointment lasts between 30 and 90 minutes. Our technicians carry a wide range of common replacement parts for all major brands in their service vehicles. Our goal is always to complete the repair on the first visit to get your appliance back up and running as quickly as possible. If a special-order part is needed, we will provide a clear timeline for its arrival and schedule a follow-up appointment promptly.
What does your service fee cover, and how do I know what the final bill will be?
Our process is completely transparent. We charge an initial flat-rate fee for the service call, which covers the technician’s travel and the time to professionally diagnose the problem. Once the issue is identified, your technician will provide you with a detailed quote that includes the cost of any necessary parts and all labor. We will not proceed with any work until you have seen and approved the full price, so you’ll know the exact final cost with no hidden charges.
General Service FAQ
What warranty do you offer on appliance repairs?
We provide a 3 Month Limited Warranty on all appliance repair services. This covers both parts and labor for the same issue initially repaired. It does not cover unrelated problems, third-party damage, or misuse.
What if the part fails again under warranty?
If a part we installed fails during the 90-day warranty period, we will replace it. However, shipping and handling costs are the responsibility of the customer.
Is the warranty transferable if I sell the appliance?
No. The warranty is non-transferable and applies only to the original customer who received the service.
Is the service call fee refundable?
No. The service call fee is non-refundable. However, it acts as a deposit toward your final repair cost if the work is completed.
When is payment due?
Payment is due upon completion of the repair. Late payments may incur a 1.5% monthly fee. Collection costs are the customer’s responsibility.
Do you offer same-day service?
Same-day service may be available depending on technician availability and your location. Please call to check.
