OUR EXPERTISE
Common Range and Oven Issues we fix everyday in Toronto & Hamilton.
Oven Not Heating:
This is the most frequent issue, often caused by a faulty heating element (bake or broil), a broken temperature sensor, or a problem with the control board.
Electric Cooktop Burner Not Heating:
This issue is usually due to a defective heating element, a broken infinite switch, or a loose electrical connection.
Oven Door Won’t Close:
A door that won’t seal properly is often caused by worn-out hinges or a damaged door gasket (seal), leading to heat loss and inefficient cooking.
Uneven Baking:
If food is consistently undercooked or overcooked in spots, it’s a sign of uneven heating, which can be caused by a bad temperature sensor or a failing heating element.
Strange Smells or Smoke:
While some smoke is normal from spills, a persistent or burning smell may indicate a faulty element, excessive grease buildup, or a damaged wire.
Digital Display or Controls Not Working:
A blank screen or unresponsive buttons usually point to a problem with the main control board or touchpad.
Oven Is Too Hot or Not Hot Enough:
This issue is often caused by a faulty thermostat or a broken temperature sensor, which needs to be replaced for accurate temperature control.
Self-Cleaning Function Not Working:
A failing self-cleaning cycle is commonly linked to issues with the door lock mechanism or the temperature sensor.
Stove Tripping the Circuit Breaker:
This is a serious electrical problem, often caused by a shorted heating element or a wiring fault, and requires immediate professional attention.
Range and Oven Repair F.A.Q.
How much does range and oven repair cost in Toronto and Hamilton?
The cost for range and oven repair can vary significantly. A simple fix, like replacing a faulty bake element, may be less expensive, while a major repair like a control board replacement or a gas-related issue will cost more. On average, you can expect to pay anywhere from $150 to over $500, depending on the complexity of the job and the parts required. We offer transparent pricing and will provide a full quote before any work begins.
Is it better to repair my range or oven or buy a new one?
This decision often depends on the age and condition of your appliance. A good rule of thumb is to consider a new appliance if your current one is over 10-15 years old, or if the repair cost is more than 50% of the price of a new, comparable model. However, if you have a high-end model or a relatively new appliance with a minor issue, a repair is usually the most cost-effective solution.
What are some simple issues I can troubleshoot myself before calling a technician?
Before you call for a professional repair, check these basic items:
- No Power: Ensure the appliance is properly plugged in and that the circuit breaker hasn’t tripped.
- Bad Heating: For electric models, make sure the heating elements are properly seated in their terminals.
When should I call a professional for range and oven repair?
It’s time to call a professional technician if:
- The oven is not heating at all, even after you’ve checked the basic power supply.
- You see sparks or smoke from an internal component.
- The digital display or touch controls are completely unresponsive.
- The oven door won’t close properly, which is a major safety and efficiency issue.
How can I maintain my range and oven to prevent future problems?
Regular maintenance can extend the life of your appliance:
- Clean Regularly: Wipe down spills as soon as they cool to prevent buildup and damage to heating elements.
- Check the Seals: Periodically inspect the oven door gasket for cracks or damage to ensure a tight seal.
- Use Correct Cookware: Use flat-bottomed pots and pans that are the correct size for the burners to ensure efficient and even heating.
- Don’t Use Harsh Chemicals: Avoid using harsh or abrasive cleaners on the oven interior or cooktop, as this can damage the surface.
- Avoid Self-Clean Overuse: While convenient, the self-clean cycle can put a strain on your oven’s components. Use it sparingly.
General Service FAQ
What warranty do you offer on appliance repairs?
We provide a 3 Month Limited Warranty on all appliance repair services. This covers both parts and labor for the same issue initially repaired. It does not cover unrelated problems, third-party damage, or misuse.
What if the part fails again under warranty?
If a part we installed fails during the 90-day warranty period, we will replace it. However, shipping and handling costs are the responsibility of the customer.
Is the warranty transferable if I sell the appliance?
No. The warranty is non-transferable and applies only to the original customer who received the service.
Is the service call fee refundable?
No. The service call fee is non-refundable. However, it acts as a deposit toward your final repair cost if the work is completed.
When is payment due?
