OUR EXPERTISE
Common Washing Machine Issues we fix everyday in Toronto & Hamilton.
Washer Won’t Turn On:
The machine is completely unresponsive. This could be a simple power issue, a tripped circuit breaker, or a more complex problem like a faulty lid switch, user control board, or main power supply.
Washer Is Not Spinning:
The cycle completes, but the clothes are left soaking wet. This often points to a malfunctioning lid switch, a worn-out or broken drive belt, a problem with the motor coupling, or a failing clutch assembly.
Leaking Water:
Puddles of water on the floor are a sure sign of trouble. Leaks can originate from loose water inlet hoses, a clogged or damaged drain hose, a failing water pump, or a leaking tub seal.
Washer Fails to Drain:
Water remains in the drum long after the cycle should have finished. This is typically caused by a clogged drain hose or a malfunctioning drain pump that needs to be cleared or replaced.
Excessive Vibration or “Walking”:
The machine shakes violently or moves across the floor during the spin cycle. This can be caused by an unbalanced load, the machine not being level on the floor, or worn-out suspension rods or shock absorbers that need replacement.
Loud or Unusual Noises:
Banging, grinding, or screeching sounds during operation are not normal. These noises can indicate anything from a simple unbalanced load to serious mechanical issues like worn-out drum bearings or an object caught between the tubs.
Washer Won’t Fill with Water:
The drum either doesn’t fill at all or fills very slowly. This issue often stems from a kinked hose, a clogged filter screen in the water inlet valve, or a faulty valve that needs to be replaced.
Bad Odors:
A persistent musty or mildew smell comes from the washer and transfers to your clothes. This is especially common in front-load washers and is caused by a buildup of soap scum, dirt, and bacteria in the door gasket and drum.
Door or Lid Won’t Lock/Unlock:
The cycle can’t begin if the machine’s door doesn’t lock correctly. Conversely, your clothes can be trapped inside if the lid remains locked after the cycle ends. This usually points to a failure in the door lock assembly.
Washer Stops Mid-Cycle:
The machine starts the cycle but stops unexpectedly before it’s finished. This can be triggered by a number of issues, including an unbalanced load, a clogged drain pump, a faulty timer, or an electronic control board malfunction.
Washing Machine Repair F.A.Q.
My washer is leaking all over the floor! What's the first thing I should do while waiting for a technician?
Your immediate goal is to prevent water damage. First, unplug the washing machine from the wall outlet for safety. Next, locate the water supply hoses behind the machine and turn the hot and cold water valves clockwise to shut them off. This will stop the flow of new water into the machine. Finally, use towels to soak up any standing water on the floor.
How can I determine if my washing machine is worth the cost of repair, or if I should just buy a new one?
This is a great question. We can often help you make that decision over the phone. Key factors include the age of your washer (most last 8-12 years), its brand, and the nature of the problem. A simple fix like a new lid switch or pump on a high-quality, 5-year-old machine is almost always worth it. If you’re facing a major repair on a very old or budget model, we’ll provide an honest assessment of whether replacement might be a better long-term investment.
What should I do to prepare for the repair appointment, and how much time should I set aside?
To help our technician work safely and efficiently, please ensure the washing machine is empty of any clothes and water, if possible. Also, please make sure the area around the washer is clear so they have room to work. A typical diagnostic and repair appointment lasts between 45 and 90 minutes. We strive to complete the repair on the first visit and stock our vans with the most common parts to make that happen.
Will I know the full cost of the repair before you begin the work?
Absolutely. Our process is fully transparent. We charge a set fee for the initial service call to come to your home and professionally diagnose the issue. Once the technician has identified the problem, they will provide you with a complete and final quote for the repair, including all parts and labor. No work will ever begin without your full approval, so you won’t have any surprises on the final bill.
My washer is making a loud banging noise during the spin cycle. Is it safe to use until you can get here?
We advise against using the washer if it’s making loud banging or grinding noises. These sounds often indicate a serious mechanical issue, such as a problem with the drum bearings or suspension. Continuing to run the machine could cause more extensive (and expensive) damage. It’s best to leave it off until one of our technicians can safely diagnose and resolve the problem.
General Service FAQ
What warranty do you offer on appliance repairs?
We provide a 3 Month Limited Warranty on all appliance repair services. This covers both parts and labor for the same issue initially repaired. It does not cover unrelated problems, third-party damage, or misuse.
What if the part fails again under warranty?
If a part we installed fails during the 90-day warranty period, we will replace it. However, shipping and handling costs are the responsibility of the customer.
Is the warranty transferable if I sell the appliance?
No. The warranty is non-transferable and applies only to the original customer who received the service.
Is the service call fee refundable?
No. The service call fee is non-refundable. However, it acts as a deposit toward your final repair cost if the work is completed.
When is payment due?
